Burnham defended his economic approach, saying his government would be “grounded in fiscal responsibility” and would stick to its fiscal rules while also working to ease cost-of-living pressures. He did not rule out tax rises ahead of the October Budget.
The first PMQs comes just days after Burnham outlined plans for greater regional devolution and increased public control over key utilities, while promising to tackle the cost of living and revive economic growth.
