HAWAII: Spektakulärer Vulkanausbruch! Kilauea spuckt wieder Lavafontänen!

Der Vulkan Kilauea auf Hawaii spuckt erneut Lavafontänen. Die Eruption begann nach Angaben der US-Erdbebenwarte USGS am Dienstagmorgen (Ortszeit). Lavafontänen seien bis zu 100 Meter in die Luft geschossen, hieß es. Auf der Plattform X veröffentlichte die Erdbebenwarte ein Video des Ausbruchs, auf dem zu sehen war, wie ein Wirbelwind am Rand der Lavafontäne kreiste. Dieses Phänomen trete gelegentlich bei Ausbrüchen auf und entstehe durch das Zusammentreffen von heißer und kalter Luft, hieß es.

Es handelt sich den Angaben zufolge um die 32. eruptive Episode, seit der Kilauea im vergangenen Dezember wieder auszubrechen begann. Seitdem ereigne sich etwa eine Episode pro Woche. Die Ausbrüche dauerten zwischen ein paar Stunden und mehr als einer Woche, hieß es. Die Eruption spiele sich in einem geschlossenen Bereich des Vulkan-Nationalparks ab. Die austretenden vulkanischen Gase könnten aber weitreichende Auswirkungen haben, warnte die Erdbebenwarte.
