LIVE: Trump Wants Taiwan to Pay for American Defence | Vantage with Palki SharmaFormer US President Donald Trump's recent statement on Taiwan is stirring up tensions in the island nation. Taiwan's Premier has reacted to Trump's remarks, saying that "US-Taiwan relationship remains rock solid". If Washington's support for Taipei dwindles, the island nation will be vulnerable to Beijing's attacks.
Trump has a clear lead in the 2024 US Presidential race, which is why his remarks carry more weight. The former President's statements have stirred fears in Taiwan's stock market with the country's top chip company, TSMC, falling by 2.6%.
