Berlin – Um 16.20 Uhr fuhr Friedrich Merz (70) mit ernster Miene vor der CDU-Zentrale am Berliner Tiergarten vor und verschwand in seiner Limousine in der Tiefgarage. Die ersten Zahlen der Umfrage-Institute, die auf seinem Handy aufploppten, bedeuteten nichts Gutes. Riesenverluste für die Christdemokraten in Sachsen-Anhalt. Ab 17 Uhr wollte sich der Parteivorsitzende im Adenauer-Haus mit Präsidiumsmitgliedern beraten. Informell, denn die eigentliche Präsidiumssitzung ist für Montag, 9 Uhr, angesetzt. Merz zog sich mit seinen engsten Mitstreitern zurück, man verfolgte die Bekanntgabe der Prognosen.Doch vor die Kameras trat der Kanzler an diesem Abend nicht mehr. Unüblich ist das in der CDU nicht. Nach Landtagswahlen tritt der Regierungschef in der Regel am Folgetag auf.
Nach bestätigten BILD-Informationen befand sich Merz bis 22.15 Uhr im Adenauer-Haus. Krisentelefonate für die wichtigen Sitzungen von Präsidium und Bundesvorstand morgen früh.
Dann rauschte er in die Nacht davon.
