Hal ini diketahui setelah beredar foto seorang tentara IDF menggunakan seragam tentara selama operasi militer mereka di Gaza.
Trerlihat jelas di lengan prajurit tersebut, tak hanya mencakup wilayah Israel tetapi juga negara tetangga, termasuk Yordania, Palestina, Lebanon, sebagian Suriah, Irak, Arab Saudi, dan Mesir.
Munculnya foto tentara mengenakan seragam beremblem kontroversial itu menuai reaksi keras publik.
Sementara RNTV melaporkan jika para kritikus menilai peta tersebut mencerminkan agenda ekspansionis yang mengingatkan pada ambisi kekaisaran dalam sejarah.
Sehingga membandingkannya dengan konsep “Lebensraum” atau ruang hidup yang diusung Nazi Jerman.
Konsep "Israel Raya" berakar pada penafsiran tertentu terhadap ideologi Zionis, yang menyatakan kalau tanah perjanjian terbentang dari Sungai Nil di Mesir hingga Sungai Efrat di Irak.
Oleh para pendukungnya, konsep ini dipandang sebagai pemenuhan nubuatan agama.
Sedangkan para kritikus dan penentang konsep tersebut mengutuknya sebagai pembenaran untuk perluasan wilayah dengan mengorbankan kedaulatan negara-negara tetangga.
Di sisi lain, pada Januari 2024 sempat beredar pernyataan penulis Israel, Avi Lipkin yang memperkirakan jika perbatasan Israel akan terbentang dari Lebanon hingga Arab Saudi.
Penulis zionis itu menggambarkannya sebagai “Gurun Besar” yang membentang dari Mediterania hingga Efrat.
Video Klip yang menggambarkan wilayah yang dicita-citakan Zionis bertajuk “Israel Raya” itu telah memicu kemarahan publik secara luas.
