Civilian Protection amidst Armed Conflict
Speakers from three humanitarian and human rights organizations will share their research, advocacy, and programmatic work related to the protection of civilians from armed-conflict violence. The roundtable will first introduce violence against civilians and civilian infrastructure at a global level, including targeted attacks against certain professions, such as teachers or health care workers, and groups, such as minorities or persons with disabilities.One key focus will be the civilian impacts of bombings of energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Discussion will then turn to attacks on health care and conflict-related sexual violence. Finally, a speaker will cover practical measures humanitarian organizations – and civilians themselves – take to respond to and prevent violence against civilians, including from wartime technological advances such as drones.
