Southern Lebanon reconstruction stalls as residents wait for aid after Israeli strikes
Reconstruction in Southern Lebanon remains stalled following Israeli strikes, leaving residents in communities such as Froun without basic services.The Lebanese government says it lacks the funds needed to rebuild, while international assistance is being conditioned on the disarmament of Hezbollah. Residents describe living without reliable water or electricity, with some using plastic to seal damaged windows.
Iran and Hezbollah previously played a major role in funding reconstruction, but current US-backed efforts seek to establish a different approach. The conflict since 2023 has caused more than $27 million in reported damage, leaving residents facing difficult conditions.
