O pedal do freio pode trepidar numa freada de emergência, quando o motorista pisa pra valer no pedal. E esta trepidação pode ser provocada pelo sistema ABS, que interfere no esforço sobre os freios, evitando as rodas de derraparem. Às vezes em baixa velocidade, a trepidação pode acontecer se o piso estiver escorregadio com água, óleo ou areia. Porém, a trepidação pode acontecer também quando o motorista pisa de leve o pedal e mesmo assim ele sente uma leve trepidação, que não vem do ABS, mas de um empenamento dos discos de freio.
