Jack Smith calmly took apart Sen. Eric Schmitt's Hawks-game accusation. The game Smith named was Iowa at Maryland, on the very same day.

At a Senate committee hearing with former Special Counsel Jack Smith, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) asked whether Smith went to a Warriors–Hawks game in Atlanta on Feb. 3, 2024. He flashed a poster of texts, took it down before Smith could read it, and said, "I think you've already perjured yourself." Once Smith saw the texts, he said he recalled a University of Maryland game against Iowa, with Caitlin Clark playing.

We look that game up: Iowa at Maryland, 93-85, Clark with 38 points and 12 assists, on Feb. 3, 2024. Schmitt later said it was "the only NBA or NCAA men's game going on at that time in Atlanta." My read: he had the verdict before he had the facts.
