Sunak sendiri memenangkan pemilu di daerah Richmond dan Northallerton.Ia menyatakan bahwa Partai Buruh yang merupakan oposisi pemerintahannya telah memenangkan pemilu. Kekalahan kubu Sunak sudah diprediksi sebelumnya.
Para pakar sudah memperkirakan bahwa Partai Konservatif bakal mengalami kekalahan terburuk sepanjang sejarahnya karena para pemilih akan “menghukum” partai ini akibat krisis biaya hidup yang meningkat, turunnya layanan publik, dan sejumlah skandal pemerintahan.
Rishi Sunak menyatakan sudah memberikan selamat kepada Keir Starmer atas kemenangan Partai Buruh. Beberapa bulan sebelumnya, Sunak mengejutkan parlemen dan partainya sendiri karena mengusulkan pemilu dipercepat di bulan Mei lalu saat Partai Konservatif sudah tertinggal 20 poin dari Partai Buruh dalam berbagai jajak pendapat.
