Kabar ini dikonfirmasi oleh Menteri Sekretaris Negara (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi, Selasa (23/9).
Komite ini tengah dirancang Presiden Prabowo Subianto sebagai respons atas desakan publik untuk membenahi institusi Polri secara menyeluruh.
Rancangan tersebut berbeda dari Tim Transformasi Reformasi Polri yang sebelumnya dibentuk Kapolri Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Menurut Prasetyo, Mahfud telah memberikan komitmen dukungan untuk terlibat dalam komite tersebut.
Meski demikian, dirinya belum merinci posisi yang akan ditempati Mahfud dalam struktur kepengurusan.
Sementara itu, Prasetyo menegaskan pembentukan komite akan melibatkan berbagai tokoh penting dan tetap menunggu arahan dari Presiden Prabowo.
Diberitakan sebelumnya, Mahfud MD menyatakan telah menerima tawaran untuk bergabung dalam Komite Reformasi Kepolisian.
Pernyataan itu disampaikan langsung Mahfud MD melalui kanal YouTube pribadinya.
Ia menuturkan telah berdiskusi dengan Sekretaris Kabinet Teddy Indra Wijaya mengenai rencana besar reformasi kepolisian.
Dalam pernyataannya, Mahfud menilai gagasan Presiden Prabowo sejalan dengan kebutuhan reformasi hukum di Indonesia.
Ia pun menegaskan kesiapan untuk berperan aktif dalam upaya pembenahan Polri.
