America combines the ocean access and financial reach of the maritime powers with the resources and internal market of a continent. China, the most popular challenger, has been losing ground in dollar terms since 2021, and it got as far as it did with a lot of help from American capital, technology and market access.
None of America's advantages depend on the dollar staying dominant. The United States could operate on a Bitcoin standard and still be the world's leading power.
