Ex-Google Executive: AI is Ending Capitalism

AI could make companies dramatically more productive. But what happens when the workers being replaced are also the customers keeping the economy alive?

Across corporate America, companies are cutting white-collar jobs while investing heavily in automation. AI systems can produce more without mortgages, car payments, or credit cards, and unlike human workers, they don’t spend their salaries back into the economy. That creates a dangerous imbalance. Former Google X executive Mo Gawdat has warned that widespread AI adoption could eliminate huge numbers of entry-level and professional jobs before new economic systems are ready to replace them. At the same time, AI could push more income toward company owners while workers receive a smaller share.

The economy may keep growing, but if fewer people can afford to participate in it, capitalism itself starts to look very different.
