Pakistan Carries Out Airstrike in Afghanistan, Civilians Killed | Firstpost
Tensions have sharply escalated between Pakistan and Afghanistan after Islamabad carried out cross-border airstrikes inside Afghan territory. The Taliban-led Afghan government says Pakistani jets bombed civilian areas in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces, hitting homes and even a madrasa. Officials claim women and children were among those killed and injured. Pakistan, however, says it targeted seven terror camps and hideouts linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliates of Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISKP). Islamabad maintains the operation was intelligence-based and conducted in response to recent attacks, including the February 6 mosque bombing in Islamabad that killed 31 people and injured over 160. The Islamic State had claimed responsibility for that attack. Afghanistan has vowed to deliver an “appropriate and calculated response,” while Pakistan accuses the Taliban regime of failing to act against terrorists operating from Afghan soil. The Taliban government denies providing a haven to terrorists.
