Die USA bringen Bewegung in die Gespräche über ein Ende des Ukrainekriegs. In Florida verhandeln amerikanische und russische Vertreter über mögliche Schritte zu einer Friedenslösung. Moskau zeigt sich erstmals offen für direkte Gespräche mit Kiew. Auch ein trilaterales Treffen mit den USA steht im Raum. Zuvor hatten ukrainische Vertreter in Miami Gespräche geführt. Washington schlug ein Format mit Ukraine, USA, Russland und europäischer Beteiligung vor. Europa signalisiert Zustimmung. Die NATO berät über Verantwortung im Fall eines Abkommens. Auch eine Schutztruppe für die Ukraine wird geprüft. Zugleich bleibt Skepsis. US-Geheimdienste gehen weiter davon aus, dass Kremlchef Wladimir Putin an weitreichenden Zielen festhält. Dennoch signalisiert Moskau Gesprächsbereitschaft. Der Kreml reagierte positiv auf ein Angebot des französischen Präsidenten Emmanuel Macron. Der ukrainische Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj erhöht den Druck. Scheitert die Diplomatie, erwartet er von den USA ein großes Waffenpaket und harte Sanktionen gegen Russland. Ob die Initiative trägt, bleibt offen. Die Gespräche in Florida sind ein Test für alle Seiten.
