Sebelum mengumumkan bangkrut, CEO Pelabuhan Eilat, Gideon Golber juga sempat meminta bantuan dana kepada pemerintah Israel.
Dilansir dari Counter Currents pada Sabtu (6/7/2024), pengumuman bangkrutnya Pelabuhan Eilat itu disampaikan langsung oleh Gideon Golber.
Menurutnya Pelabuhan Eilat resmi tutup sepenuhnya setelah seluruh aktivitas pelabuhan lumpuh total sejak delapan bulan terakhir.
Dalam pernyataannya, Gideon Golber juga mengakui bahwa bangkrutnya Pelabuhan Eilat itu merupakan buntut dari kegagalan pemerintah dalam melawan Houthi di Laut Merah.
Pasalnya, pasukan tempur dari negaranya itu tidak bisa menggagalkan serangan Houthi terhadap kapal-kapal yang menuju ke Pelabuhan Eilat.
Termasuk pula serangan Houthi terhadap pelabuhan itu secara langsung.
Sehingga kapal-kapal yang terafiliasi dengan Israel itu mengalihkan rutenya melalui Tanjung Harapan.
Akibatnya pelabuhan Eilat tidak mendapatkan pemasukan apapun selama delapan bulan penuh hingga kini harus ditutup sepenuhnya.
