Pavel Durov, fondatore di Telegram, ha ammesso pubblicamente che durante le elezioni in Moldavia fu contattato dai servizi segreti francesi con la richiesta di censurare alcuni canali Telegram che venivano ritenuti “problematici” per il governo moldavo e francese, in particolare quelli che esprimevano posizioni politiche non gradite alle autorità europee e locali.
Durov ha reso noto tramite post su X (Twitter) e Telegram che in un primo momento furono rimossi canali che effettivamente violavano le regole della piattaforma, ma che si rifiutò di intervenire ulteriormente contro altri canali completamente regolari, ritenendo la richiesta esclusivamente di natura politica e non basata su reali violazioni.
