Djie Kiem Khoen atau dikenal para cucunya dengan panggilan 'Kong Alex' tak pernah berjumpa dengan Adeste atau para cucu yang lain.

Awal November 1965, Alex 'diciduk' oleh sekelompok pemuda bersama tentara dan polisi melalui gang belakang rumahnya.

Sebelum akhirnya hilang, Alex masih bisa dijumpai di penjara dan kamp yang berada di Klaten, Jawa Tengah.

Meski tak pernah ditemukan, keluarga sepakat memberikan penghormatan terakhir dengan membuatkan makam untuk Alex di samping makam istrinya. Hanya ada peti kecil berisi pakaian Alex yang dikuburkan di dalam makam sebagai simbol.

Semula para cucu yang rutin berziarah tak pernah curiga. Sampai dokumenter ‘40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy’ (2009) yang memuat keluarga besarnya tayang dan ditonton bersama keluarga, Adeste dan para sepupunya baru diberitahu makam kakeknya selama ini kosong, tanpa jasad.

Kakeknya tak pernah kembali setelah menjadi korban pelanggaran Hak Asasi Manusia pada 1965.

Kini, para generasi ketiga berupaya memaknai dengan caranya masing-masing sebagai jalan memupus trauma dan menyebarluaskan sejarah dari sudut pandang berbeda.
