Mamdani on 9/11: NYC mayor lays wreath, greets Giuliani and de Blasio at World Trade Center memorial
Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined city leaders, families of 9/11 victims and first responders at the World Trade Center memorial Friday as New York City marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.The mayor's attendance has drawn some controversy. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who held the position during the 2001 attacks, publicly called on Mamdani to stay away from the ceremony. Mamdani did not directly respond to Giuliani's comments, instead saying the anniversary should remain focused on the victims and first responders. Instead, he was seen greeting him at the memorial as well as former mayor Bill de Blasio.
Mamdani joined fire department officials to lay a wreath at a memorial for firefighters who lost their lives while responding in the terrorist attacks beforehand, too.
