Una gigantesca nuvola di fumo nero alta alcuni chilometri. Così l'Etna si è risvegliata e potrebbe dare presto problemi al traffico aereo nello scalo di Catania dove è stato alzato il livello di allerta. Anche se al momento il traffico aero risulta regolare. A provocare la massiccia fuoriuscita di fumo e materiale vulcanico, stando a quanto comunica l'Istituto nazionale di geofisica e vulcanologia di Catania, sarebbe stato un flusso piroclastico probabilmente prodotto da un collasso di materiale del fianco settentrionale del cratere di Sud-Est. Il materiale caldo avrebbe poi oltrepassato l'orlo della Valle del Leone, a circa 2900 metri di quota. Contestualmente, l'attività esplosiva dal cratere di Sud-Est ha cominciato a generare delle fontane di lava.Il tremore vulcanico ha raggiunto valori molto alti. Tutto comunque in questa fase è circoscritto alle quote sommitali del vulcano. Per la la precisione dell'area del cratere di Sud-Est, tra 2900 e 2800 metri. Quindi ben lontano dai centri abitati. L'unico motivo di apprensione in questa fase è semmai legata alla massiccia presenza di turisti che, complice la bella giornata, dalle prime ore del mattino hanno preso d'assalto il vulcano e qualcuno magari si è avventurato per qualche escursione in quota.
