Kelly Tripucka Distributes 37 Points to Dr. J & Co.

April 11, 1984 - Early '80s Kelly Tripucka was not messing around. Granted, was he locking down on the defensive end? Not necessarily. But each night there was a good chance he was going to outscore his matchup (unless his name was Bernard King). Against Philly, Tripucka saved his best for last, exploding in the fourth quarter with a barrage of rapid fire mid-range jumpers en route to leading the Detroit Pistons to a 126-113 win over the 76ers, snapping a 10-year losing streak at The Spectrum.

All told, Tripucka finished with 37 points (on 16-of-27 shooting), 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals in the win. Julius Erving, for his part, finished with 22, 8, and 5.

Tripucka, who was third in the league in scoring in 1983, long held the Pistons' franchise record for points in a single game with a 56-point performance against Chicago. Jerry Stackhouse later broke that record in 2001 when he tallied 57 points, also against Chicago.
