In Leipzig treffen heute zwei linke Szenen aufeinander. Das erklärt Reporter Lutz Stordel vor Ort. Die Polizei ist mit rund 1000 Beamten im Einsatz. Zentrum der Lage ist das Connewitzer Kreuz. Der Bereich ist abgeriegelt. Barrieren stehen. Die Demo-Routen wurden geändert. Ursprünglich sollten propalästinensische Gruppen und Israel-Unterstützer dieselbe Strecke nutzen. Dieser Plan ist vom Tisch. Die propalästinensische Demonstration zieht ins Leipziger Zentrum. Connewitz bleibt außen vor. Die Polizei will Konfrontationen verhindern.
Stordel beschreibt einen tiefen Bruch. In Connewitz prägte sich in den 1990er-Jahren eine linke Szene. Sie lehnte Deutschland ab, erkannte Israel aber als Opfer des Zweiten Weltkriegs an. Seit 2015 entstand im Leipziger Osten eine andere Szene. Sie ist klar propalästinensisch und lehnt den Staat Israel ab. Beide Lager stehen sich feindlich gegenüber. Zusätzliche Spannungen brachte Solidarität mit israelischen Opfern nach dem Massaker der Hamas. In der Szene folgte heftiger Protest. Die Gräben sind tief. Die Polizei muss nun die Trennung der Demos sichern. Am Abend kommt ein Fußballspiel hinzu. Die Lage bleibt angespannt.
