Per lo stesso motivo dichiarato, l'America aveva bombardato l'Iran nel giugno dell'anno scorso. Un intervento destinato poi a passare alla storia come "guerra dei dodici giorni". In quell'intervento gli Stati Uniti e Israele avevano bombardato tre siti nucleari iraniani, per poi dichiarare una tregua il 24 giugno. Dopo 8 mesi, il Medio Oriente torna a vivere la stessa tensione. Le forze armate statunitensi e israeliane hanno avviato questa mattina un'offensiva congiunta su vasta scala contro obiettivi iraniani per "rimuovere le minacce nei confronti" di Israele. Il Presidente degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump ha lanciato un messaggio simile. "Il nostro obiettivo è difendere il popolo americano eliminando le minacce imminenti poste dal regime iraniano, un gruppo feroce di persone terribili e senza scrupoli".
Testimoni nella capitale iraniana riferiscono esplosioni violente nel centro città, con fumo nero visibile sopra il complesso del leader supremo Ali Khamenei e zone vicine al palazzo presidenziale. La reazione di Teheran è stata fulminea: ondate di missili balistici verso Israele (sirene e intercettazioni attive su Tel Aviv, Gerusalemme e nord), oltre a lanci contro basi americane in Qatar, Bahrein, Emirati, Kuwait e Arabia Saudita.
Un conflitto che parte da lontano sul quale abbiamo cercato di fare chiarezza con il professor Franco Cardini in diretta ai nostri microfoni. Il reporter Giorgio Bianchi lo ha intervistato.
