From a Doleful to a Soulful Life: Healing, Hope and Inner Power | Dr. Coomi Vevaina | TEDxYouth@LPHS

What if schools taught us how to deal with our inner world — our fears, failures, grief, anger, and self-doubt?
In this deeply personal and profoundly moving talk, Dr. Coomi S. Vevaina, award-winning educator, author, and storyteller, traces her journey from a childhood marked by anxiety, humiliation, loss, and repeated emotional setbacks to a life anchored in inner strength, resilience, and joy.
Drawing from literature, psychology, wisdom traditions, and lived experience, she introduces powerful metaphors such as the snow globe, the wheel, and the Vesica Piscis to explain how perception shapes reality and how inner work can transform suffering into meaning. She shares her practical CARS model (Commit–Act–Review–Share) as a tool for conscious personal growth.
This talk is a compassionate reminder that while life’s storms are inevitable, we can learn to strengthen our inner centre. A message of hope for students, educators, parents, and anyone navigating emotional overwhelm, it invites us to move from surviving to thriving — from a doleful to a soulful life.
A powerful journey of healing that shows how inner work, awareness, and choice can transform pain into purpose and despair into joy. Dr. Coomi S. Vevaina is an internationally acclaimed educator, storyteller, and author with a distinguished career in education. She is a former Head of the Department of English at the University of Mumbai, where she served as Professor and academic leader. An education futurist and teacher trainer, she has been widely recognised for her work in innovative, learner-centred pedagogy, curriculum redesign, and narrative-based approaches to learning. She is the Founder Director of the Global Tipping Point Summit and the storytelling initiative “Wordfully Yours,” which engages learners of all ages through creative narrative and psycho-, socio-, and eco-literacy methods.
