The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos Review | Better than Gothic 2?
A spoiler-free, in-depth review/critique/analysis of The Chronicles of Myrtana Archolos, a free total conversion mod for Gothic 2: Night of the Raven. One of the most extensive and ambitious mods ever created for the Gothic games, Archolos offers a full-game experience with 100+ hours of gameplay in an all-original map and story, with tons of updates and improvements to the existing Gothic formula. It is pretty faithful to the original games and feels so professional in quality that it could easily be confused for an official Gothic game. For that reason alone, it is a special treat for Gothic fans since this is the closest thing we've ever had to experiencing another game like Gothic 2, since Gothic 2. In a lot of ways, Archolos is actually superior to Gothic 2 due to all the extra refinement it brings to the equation with new quality of life improvements, mechanical evolutions, and so many things being straight up "bigger and better" than they were originally. Despite that, however, I question whether it's actually a better game or not, because there are in fact a few important ways that Archolos strays from the Gothic experience that I love so much, with some notable issues that sour my overall enjoyment a bit.Read this review in written format here:
