India Commissions Fast Patrol Vessel 'Achal' to Boost Maritime Security

India has commissioned a new Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), ‘Achal’, to strengthen maritime security and enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The 51-metre vessel is part of the Adamya-class ship series and contains more than 50% indigenous components, highlighting India’s growing push towards defence self-reliance. Designed for rapid response operations and extended missions in India’s maritime zones, the vessel features improved mission adaptability, surveillance capabilities, and operational efficiency. The new FPV will be stationed at Vadinar in Gujarat and operate under the Commander Coast Guard Region (North West). Officials say the induction of ‘Achal’ marks another major step in expanding the ICG fleet and boosting India’s coastal security architecture.
