Meskipun sekarang Sunda Kalapa hanyalah nama salah satu pelabuhan di Jakarta, daerah ini sangat penting karena desa di sekitar pelabuhan Sunda Kalapa adalah cikal-bakal kota Jakarta yang hari jadinya ditetapkan pada tanggal 22 Juni 1527.
