Indonesia masih terus mengupayakan pembebasan pilot Susi Air, Philip Mark Merthens, yang disandera selama lebih dari satu tahun.Menteri Koordinator Bidang Politik Hukum dan Keamanan Indonesia, Hadi Tjahjanto dalam kunjungannya ke Jayapura, menyampaikan pemerintah pusat bersama pemerintah daerah dan aparat TNI-Polri sudah berkomunikasi dan koordinasi dengan para tokoh di Kabupaten Nduga.
Selain itu, upaya pembebasan pilot yang berkebangsaan Selandia Baru ini masih menggunakan pendekatan soft approach. Kabar terakhir tentang pilot Susi Air terlihat pada akhir bulan Maret 2023, yang kemudian menjadi viral di media sosial pada awal April 2023.
Di mana dalam video tersebut, pilot Susi Air meminta agar TNI-Polri tidak menjatuhkan bom di sekitar tempat persembunyian mereka.
