El conflicto ISRAEL-PALESTINA en 28 minutos (RESUMEN ACTUALIZADO)
El 2 de noviembre de 1917, en plena Primera Guerra Mundial que enfrentaba, por una parte al Imperio Alemán, el Imperio Austriaco y el Imperio Otomano contra un grupo de países aliados comandados por Gran Bretaña y Francia, el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores británico Arthur Balfour remitió una carta a lord Rothschild, líder de la comunidad judía inglesa. Esta carta, conocida como declaración Balfour, anunciaba el apoyo del gobierno británico a la creación de un hogar nacional judío en Palestina.Con esta medida, los británicos buscaban el apoyo de las comunidades judías, sobre todo las de Estados Unidos, en contra de los imperios centrales y, muy especialmente, contra el Imperio Otomano, quien controlaba Palestina desde el siglo XVI.
Dos años antes de la declaración Balfour, en 1915, Henry McMahon, alto comisario británico en Egipto, había remitido una serie de cartas al jerife de la Meca Husayn ibn Ali con objeto de promover una revolución árabe en contra del dominio otomano desde los territorios de la península Arábiga hasta Siria, territorios que en su mayor parte, finalizada la guerra, quedarían bajo el dominio de Husayn, incluida Palestina.
