India has once again been named in a U.S. Russia sanctions bill that could pave the way for tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian oil. The latest House amendment explicitly names India, China and other countries, reviving a long-running dispute between Washington and New Delhi over India’s Russian crude imports. The development comes after the U.S. Senate passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act by an 86-11 vote, in August. The bill targets Russia’s leadership, energy sector and so-called shadow fleet, while giving the U.S. President potential authority to impose secondary tariffs on countries continuing to trade with Russia. India has repeatedly defended its energy security and its right to maintain energy cooperation with Russia. The latest move comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have showcased close ties at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.---
