Lange bemerkt Michael Lins nichts. Bis er sich eines Tages nach einem Bad wundert, dass der vermeintliche Schaum im Auge nicht weggeht. Die Diagnose ist niederschmetternd: Grüner Star auf beiden Augen.

Die Erkrankung, auch Glaukom genannt, ist die zweithäufigste Ursache von Erblindung. Schätzungen zufolge gibt es weltweit etwa 80 Millionen Menschen, die an Grauem Star erkrankt sind. Man nennt ihn auch den stillen Dieb. Denn ohne Vorwarnung stiehlt der Grüne Star das Augenlicht. Der Sehnerv wird dauerhaft geschädigt. Die Betroffenen, wie Michael, bemerken es oft erst, wenn es zu spät ist. Michael verlor nicht nur seine Sehkraft, sondern auch den Lebensmut. Bis er in eine berufliche Rehabilitation für Blinde und Sehgeschädigte kam. Dort lernte er, mit seinem neuen Leben umzugehen. Langsam hat er Mobilität und Lebensfreude zurückgewonnen. Wir haben ihn dabei über ein Jahr lang begleitet.
