LIVE: Trump Pushes NATO for Tariffs on China, Leaves India Out | Vantage with Palki Sharma
In his latest trade offensive, US President Donald Trump has now issued a letter to his NATO allies, urging them to pressurise Russia and China, seeking an end to the Ukraine war. Trump has asked NATO members to stop purchasing Russian oil, and to put sanctions against Moscow. He has also asked them to impose 50 to 100 per cent trade tariffs on China, adding in the letter that it will be a "great help in ENDING this deadly, but RIDICULOUS, WAR". But his latest move has equally stunned Russia, China, NATO and the rest of the world.Trump recently courted Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and later also hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his second White House debut — but the US President could not broker a ceasefire deal between the two nations at war.
Trump's new China offensive also comes as a shock since he had not threatened any secondary tariffs on China for buying Russian oil, even though he reprimanded India for doing so. And his new statement has no references to India.
So, what exactly does Trump want from these nations? Why does the US President keep changing his stance on Russia, China and India so much? And, what implications will this new threat have on NATO and the rest of the world? On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma breaks it down for you.
