May 14, 1978 - Denver Nuggets All-Star guard David Thompson finished with 35 points on 16-of-27 shooting from the floor in a 123-114 win over the Seattle SuperSonics in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. This stood as Thompson's standout performance of the series and his second most productive performance of the 1978 playoffs, next to his 37-point, 6-rebound, 6-assist showing in Game 7 of his team's semi-final series against the Milwaukee Bucks.His Game 5 dominance kept the Nuggets alive another day, securing a 123-114 win. However, it would serve as the only game of the series in which Thompson scored more than 23 points and shot better than 45 percent. The Sonics would go on to eliminate the Nuggets in Game 6, clinching their first ever Finals appearance.
