(LaPresse) Droni che riescono a navigare in sicurezza, al buio, nella nebbia o nel fumo grazie a sensori a ultrasuoni. È il PeAR Bat, che prende il nome dal Perception and Autonomous Robotics Group di Sanket al WPI. I dispositivi, ispirati ai pipistrelli, sono testati dal laboratorio di robotica del Worcester Polytechnic Institutem negli Stati Uniti. Questi velivoli possono portare a termine una missione in condizioni in cui i robot basati sulla visione falliscono. Come i pipistrelli sono in grado di navigare nei cieli notturni pieni di ostacoli senza schiantarsi contro alberi, edifici o pareti di vetro. Pertanto, i droni utilizzano sensori a ultrasuoni ed ecolocalizzazione per “vedere” quando le telecamere e altri sistemi ottici non funzionano.
