In this video, I take a deep dive into the legendary book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and explain why following its advice blindly in 2026 India could be a huge financial mistake. While the book revolutionized personal finance when it was released in 1997, the economic landscape of modern-day India is vastly different from 90s America. I break down the 'Home as a Liability' concept with actual math, comparing US rental yields and interest rates to the Indian market to show why buying a house through a loan in India rarely makes it an 'asset' in the way Kiyosaki describes.
I also challenge the book’s dismissal of formal education and its push to 'escape the rat race' at any cost. I emphasize the importance of protection through insurance, automating your investments through SIPs to overcome 'habit problems', and most importantly, focusing on increasing your income while you're young rather than just obsessing over minor cost-cutting.
