El 4 de julio del año pasado, los activistas participaron de una acción de protesta frente al centro de detención de inmigrantes de Prairieland, una cárcel del ICE en Alvarado, Texas, en la cual se encendieron fuegos artificiales y un oficial de policía resultó herido de bala. Las nueve personas imputadas fueron declaradas culpables por un juez federal en Texas. Matt Sledge, reportero político del medio The Intercept, advierte que “tenemos que estar alerta para ver si este mismo libreto se aplica en otros lugares”.
“Ahora cualquiera que se movilice por cuestiones básicas, con las creencias políticas 'equivocadas', puede ser etiquetado como terrorista doméstico, aún cuando no tenga una intención violenta, no cometa ningún acto de violencia, ni esté interesado en ejercer ningún tipo de violencia”, plantea Sufia Khalid, subdirectora del centro jurídico National Security Criminal Defense Center, quien representa a una de las personas acusadas por la movilización frente a Prairieland.
