Science Education: Past, Present, Future. | Josh Jett | TEDxGainesville High School

Josh Jett has spent 20+ years teaching science, long enough to see education change in ways he never expected. In this TEDx talk, he shares the moment a student asked him how school today compares to when that student’s dad was in his class and how that question pushed him to rethink everything from technology to testing. Josh talks about the rise of constant assessments, the impact on students, emphasizing why hands-on curiosity still matters more than any exam, and how he is implementing that philosophy in his classroom. This is my 21st year teaching science at Santa Fe High School. I currently serve in the Science Department Chair, and have taught Biology I, AP Environmental Science, AP Biology and Anatomy over the course of my career. No other subject has the potential to spark the imagination or stimulate one's intellectual curiosity like the sciences. I feel fortunate to teach a field of study with such inherent opportunities to both develop the content knowledge and challenge the critical thinking skills of my students. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
