Zeus, enamorado de la reina mortal Alcmena, adopta la forma de su esposo Anfitrión y engendra a Hércules. Cuando Anfitrión regresa y condena a Alcmena, Zeus descubre la verdad y la salva. Consumida por los celos, Hera adelanta el parto de Euristeo, arrebatando al recién nacido Hércules el trono de Micenas. Luego envía dos serpientes, que el bebé estrangula con sus propias manos. Temiendo la venganza de Hera, Alcmena abandona al niño, pero Atenea y la propia Hera — sin saber quién es — lo encuentran; Hera lo amamanta y la leche divina que se derrama crea la Vía Láctea, sellando la fuerza de Hércules y el juramento de Hera de atormentarlo para siempre.Arte: Mauro Fodra
