In Solingen ist heute dem Anschlag mit drei Toten vor einem Jahr gedacht worden. Auch der nordrhein-westfälische Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst (CDU) nahm an der Veranstaltung teil. Er rief dazu auf, die Werte der offenen und freiheitlichen Gesellschaft zu verteidigen. „Unsere Antwort auf Gewalt ist der wehrhafte Rechtsstaat“, sagte er.Am 23. August 2024 hatte der mutmaßliche syrische Islamist Issa al H. beim Stadtfest drei Menschen mit einem Messer getötet und acht Besucher:innen verletzt, mehrere von ihnen lebensgefährlich. Ihm gelang kurzzeitig die Flucht, bevor er von der Polizei festgenommen wurde. Inzwischen steht er wegen Mordes und versuchten Mordes vor dem Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf.
