US-Iran War LIVE: The Battle For The Strait of Hormuz | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Mines, Missiles and Tankers: The Battle for the Strait of Hormuz | Vantage with Palki SharmaTensions in the Strait of Hormuz are rising sharply. Iran is reportedly deploying naval mines in the narrow waterway — one of the most critical chokepoints for global energy supplies.
Nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil moves through this strait. With the conflict escalating, commercial shipping has largely stopped. The United States says it has already destroyed several Iranian mine-laying vessels, but much of Tehran’s fleet remains operational.
As the waterway turns into an active conflict zone, oil tankers are staying away. The disruption is already shaking global energy markets and raising fears of a prolonged supply shock.
To stabilise markets, the International Energy Agency (IEA) is considering an emergency release of 300 to 400 million barrels of strategic oil reserves — the largest such move in its history. However, analysts warn that this may only offset a fraction of the oil currently missing from global supply.
With mines threatening shipping lanes and energy infrastructure coming under attack, the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz is fast becoming one of the most serious threats to global energy security in decades.
