In this video, I discuss how and why to run a Bitcoin node using Bitcoin Knots running on a Start9 personal server, that you can either purchase or build yourself.
Why run a Bitcoin node?
If you don't run your own node, you're not a self-sovereign Bitcoiner. You're a second-class citizen who's forced to rely on other people who do run Bitcoin nodes.
If you don't run your own node, then:
1) You need to trust other people to verify that your BTC is real
2) You need someone else's permission to send BTC
3) You need someone else to check to see if you have received any BTC
4) The whole time you're leaking privacy (the public node that you are connecting to can see all of your Bitcoin transactions)
Running a Bitcoin node also allows you to pick sides in the event of a soft fork, rather than letting Coinbase or Ledger pick sides for you.
