Can you put a price on love? How about $360 million Hong Kong dollars?That’s the staggering amount lonely men across Asia lost in a year-long cryptocurrency scam busted by Hong Kong police. In this talk, Debra opens up our eyes to how criminals exploit our digital vulnerabilities through advanced technologies—and what we can do to safeguard ourselves and our digital lives in an increasingly connected world. Debra Au has led the Hong Kong Legal Compliance and Compliance Secretariat teams at DBS Hong Kong since 2022. She also represents the banking sector as the only female advisor with the Hong Kong government to formulate global laws on Cyber Crime
She kick-started her career at Goldman Sachs, where, due to the 9/11 terrorist attack in the US, she specialised in compliance, anti-money laundering, and financial crime. Debra progressed through various sectors at Societe Generale before joining HSBC to lead their Financial Crime team in Hong Kong.
Elevated to Chief Compliance Officer in 2020, Debra’s expertise expanded to encompass Hong Kong, Macau, and the Greater Bay Area by 2021. Throughout her career, Debra has used her innovation and leadership to empower individuals and organisations to protect themselves from fraud and financial crime.
