Sin embargo, el nuevo rey tiene que tomar decisiones difíciles. Tiene que devolver el anillo a un mago muy poderoso llamado Mortos y cumplir un acuerdo previamente establecido.
Pero si devuelve el anillo a Mortos, corre el riesgo de iniciar una nueva guerra y, por lo tanto, acabar perdiendo muy probablemente todo el Reino de la Rosa Dorada. Si se niega, Mortos vendrá a por el anillo tarde o temprano y el destino del reino será aún peor. El sobrino del rey, Ulrich, insiste en que deben usar el anillo y luchar contra todos los que amenacen su reino.
