Las turbulencias de Chile: Allende y Pinochet (1970-1990)
La historia contemporánea de Chile entre 1970 y 1990 es el trágico relato de un país convertido en conejillo de indias durante la Guerra Fría, arrastrado por fanatismos opuestos. Lejos de narrativas románticas, este texto disecciona ambas décadas con crudeza y datos.Todo comenzó en 1970 con Salvador Allende, quien llegó al poder con un precario 36,6% de los votos. Sin una mayoría real, intentó forzar una revolución socialista que estatizó la economía y expropió tierras. Esta inmolación, financiada mediante emisión descontrolada de dinero, provocó un déficit abismal, hiperinflación superior al 600%, desabastecimiento crónico y el colapso del país.
El desastre institucional pavimentó el camino para el violento golpe de Estado de 1973. Augusto Pinochet instauró una tiranía que entregó la gestión económica a los "Chicago Boys". Aplicaron un electroshock liberal de privatizaciones masivas y desregulación que, si bien integró a Chile al mercado global, provocó dos graves colapsos económicos (1975 y 1982), dejando a casi un 40% de la población en la pobreza. El cacareado "milagro económico" es un mito; el verdadero despegue chileno se forjó posteriormente en democracia.
Sin embargo, el mayor coste del régimen militar fue innegablemente humano. La reingeniería económica exigió exterminar a la oposición mediante un terrorismo de Estado brutal y sistemático: miles de asesinatos, torturas y desapariciones, avalados por un Poder Judicial cómplice. Asimismo, es falso que Pinochet entregara el poder voluntariamente; perdió el plebiscito de 1988 e intentó desconocerlo, operando luego como un peligroso caudillo extorsionador desde el ejército.
En conclusión, la absoluta ruina económica de una utopía irresponsable no justifica el horror de una dictadura, ni viceversa. Cincuenta años después, entre exilios, intervenciones extranjeras y profundas fracturas sociales, Chile sigue luchando por superar definitivamente los tótems tóxicos y la extrema polarización política heredada de su oscuro pasado.
