Gulf on edge as drones target major oil ports
Tensions across the Gulf region have intensified after a series of missile and drone attacks targeting key infrastructure and oil facilities.Authorities reported that smoke was seen rising from the major oil facility at Fujairah Port following a drone strike. The port is one of the largest energy hubs in the Middle East and plays a crucial role in refueling ships and supporting global oil trade.
Iran has reportedly warned residents in the United Arab Emirates to avoid areas near strategic locations such as Jebel Ali Port and Khalifa Port, labeling them as potential targets in the ongoing regional conflict.
Across the Gulf, air defense systems were activated as several countries reported intercepting missiles and drones. The United Arab Emirates said it intercepted nine ballistic missiles and more than thirty drones.
In Qatar, authorities reported intercepting multiple ballistic missiles and several drones, while Saudi Arabia said its defenses stopped six ballistic missiles and dozens of drones.
Meanwhile, in Kuwait, the international airport experienced radar damage following a suspected drone attack. Officials also reported drones entering the country’s airspace and targeting a military air base.
These incidents come as the wider conflict in the Middle East enters its third week, raising fears of further escalation across the region.
Energy infrastructure has become a major concern for Gulf nations. Oil ports, refineries, and shipping routes are critical to the economies of many countries in the region, making them particularly sensitive targets during times of conflict.
Governments across the Gulf have repeatedly called for de-escalation and diplomatic negotiations between the main parties involved in the conflict, including Israel, the United States, and Iran.
Leaders in the region warn that continued attacks on energy facilities could threaten global oil supplies and economic stability.
In this video we break down the latest missile interceptions, the strategic importance of Gulf oil ports, and the growing risk of a wider regional conflict.
