Pejabat AS mengaku Washington mulai khawatir terhadap penutupan Selat Hormuz.
Terlebih pemuatan ranjau laut ini menunjukkan sikap serius Iran menutup salah satu jalur pelayaran tersibuk di dunia.
Namun sejumlah media internasional tidak dapat memastikan secara spesifik terkait waktu Iran memuat ranjau itu ke Teluk Persia.
Selain itu, belum diketahui apakah ranjau laut itu sudah dibongkar atau belum.
Sumber-sumber pejabat AS tidak mengungkapkan bagaimana AS memastikan ranjau telah dipasang di kapal-kapal Iran.
Namun intelijen semacam itu biasanya dikumpulkan melalui citra satelit, sumber-sumber manusia rahasia, atau kombinasi kedua metode tersebut.
Sementara jika Iran memblokade selat tersebut, maka akan sangat menghambat perdagangan global dan meningkatkan konflik di kawasan tersebut.
Sekitar seperlima dari pengiriman minyak dan gas dunia melewati Selat Hormuz dan penutupan jalur tersebut dapat meningkatkan harga energi dunia.
