"Io da oggi ho responsabilità di guidare un nuovo progetto politico per questa regione. Non potevo girare la spalle alla mia terra e al mio popolo, non ho mai girato le spalle alla mia gente e alla mia terra e non lo farò nemmeno stavolta. Mi sono candidato anche perché ho fatto una promessa a un mio amico, e se ci fosse avrebbe detto Donato Metallo io da oggi ci sono per te, per voi e per la Puglia tutta". Lo ha detto l'eurodeputato Pd Antonio Decaro alla festa dell'Unità di Bisceglie, candidandosi alla guida della Puglia per il centrosinistra.
