Irene und Christian lieben sich, sind seit vielen Jahren verheiratet. Um auch den Segen von Irenes Familie zu erhalten, reisen sie nach Tansania.Als Irene Thadei Leony bekannt gibt, dass sie sich in einen Deutschen verliebt hat, ist ihre tansanische Familie geschockt. Auch ihre Freunde sind überzeugt, dass der Deutsche nichts Gutes im Schilde führt. Trotz des Widerstands hält Christian Kreisel, Notarzt aus Marburg, um Irenes Hand an. In Deutschland heiraten sie standesamtlich, aber sie stellen sich auch einem traditionellen Ritual in Irenes Heimat Tansania, um den Segen der Familie zu erhalten. Heute lebt das Paar mit seinen zwei Töchtern in Marburg. Christian träumt davon, nach Tansania zu ziehen. Er will dort als Arzt arbeiten. Doch Irene ist davon nicht begeistert. Wie lebt die Familie zwischen diesen zwei Welten? Eine Reportage von Udo Kilimann und Jule Sommer.
