È il 1968. Padre Pio ha 81 anni ed è ormai molto malato. Gira solo in carrozzina e trascorre quasi tutto il tempo nella sua cella numero uno, tra le sue cose più care. Sono passati cinquant’anni da quella giornata straordinaria in cui sul suo corpo erano apparse le stigmate, e ora la sua salute peggiora di minuto in minuto. Nell’ultima notte gli viene somministrato ossigeno, e un medico gli pratica un’iniezione, ma non c’è più nulla da fare. Tra le mani tiene il rosario e le sue ultime parole sono: “Gesù, Maria”. Un ultimo mistero avvolge la sua morte: le stigmate non ci sono più.
