Im Nürnberger Justizpalast, im Saal 600, wurden zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte politische Führer für Kriegsverbrechen und Massenmord vor ein internationales Gericht gestellt. Die Prozesse gelten als die Geburtsstunde des internationalen Gerichtshofes.

Im Jahr 1945 mussten sich hochrangige NS-Funktionäre wie Hermann Göring vor Gericht verantworten. Viele bestritten ihre Schuld, gaben vor, nichts vom Holocaust gewusst zu haben, und schoben die Verantwortung allein Hitler zu. Doch die Beweise waren erdrückend: Zeugenaussagen von Überlebenden, Filmaufnahmen aus Konzentrationslagern und Dokumente, die ihre direkte Beteiligung belegten
